  RADIATION THERAPY

The Elekta Synergy®Platform is a fully digital linear accelerator that employs IMRT, the latest in radiation therapy treatment technology.  IMRT, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy, spares maximum amounts of normal tissue surrounding a tumor by using smaller  margins and multiple beams to the target area.  The patient is treated with many small beams, each of which can have different intensities that are varied across the treatment field.  This advance in cancer treatment recognizes that tumors can have complex shapes that require high levels of precision to treat.  With eight different energy capabilities, the possibilities for custom designed cancer treatment close to home are endless.

In order to ensure pinpoint accuracy of treatment, we employ the use of the iViewGT™ an advanced digital imaging system which registers the patients position in relation to the radiation field during treatment.  This provides real-time verification of treatment delivery.
